New York — With the recent acquisition of Fonthill and Grey Watkins, two high end decorative fabric and wallcoverings companies, Stark Carpet has reshaped its fabric division, formerly known as Old World Weavers, into a new division called Stark Fabric.

The company, which specializes in high-end rugs, decorative fabrics, wallcoverings, and furniture, purchased Fonthill and Grey Watkins last month. The founders of each company, John Brewer and Grey Watkins respectively, remain with the company as directors of design for their units. The two businesses have relocated into the showrooms of Old World Weavers here, and in Dallas and Houston.

In all other territories, the two lines will remain in existing showrooms

The infighting is actually

The infighting is actually preventing the utopia we are all supposedly seeking. As you know many of these Sierra Club members live in the very same hills and are the first to have nature take everything they own from them, so of course they want the fires out too. Many times Sierra Club member hikers inadvertently set the fires when they disobey laws about campfires.

When the year has been dry and hot, there is always extreme fire risk as has been the case in the Western States and those regions not bordering the Pacific Ocean, this year we are on the back side, the down hill slide of the solar maximum cycle, but we are still not out of the woods yet. Meanwhile excessive rains in CA caused an abundance of sagebrush growth which will become dry come summer. At risk again in 2005 are all those other states where droughts have occurred and are way under rainfall averages.

Fires; the larger ones, once they get going have a life of their own, you cannot get men to lay hoses that fast, you must attack from the air.

WHY is all this so important?

If you use eBay or any auction site, send photos, want a website, want to print photo or email photos… etc. You don’t want to send blurry hard-to-view pictures. You’ll sell more if you have extra pictures and clear ones. Your family might want to print the photos you post online or that you send via email. So take the time, you will be so glad you did!

Bikers brave weather for the Brass Monkey

0 Comments | Southland Times, The, Jun 7, 2010 | by SMITH Gavin

WAS it cold? You betcha.

Did the 10cm of snow and minus 8degC frost bother the dedicated 2000 bikers who drove through snow to get to the Brass Monkey Rally at Oturehua?

No.

The Otago Motor Cycle Club’s 30th annual rally attracted bikers from New Zealand and Australia as well as one from Canada.

The snow-capped Hawkdun range made a stunning setting at the weekend. For 17 riders it was the 30th time they had braved the unpredictable weather to pitch their tent on this hallowed piece of barren farmland.

Their reward for such devotion was an elevation in status among their peers, and the presentation of a special plaque.

The oldest rider to achieve the 30-year honour, Bryers Hull, 75, of Oamaru and formerly of Motueka , suggested that it was his stupidity that kept him motivated to return each year.

Accompanied again by his wife Jo, who has attended 22 rallies, he reflected on the changes he had experienced during the years.

“Especially in the early years, I think it was a case of more pain than pleasure because the weather was definitely much colder then.

“For the last 10 years it has been so warm that we have had rain.

“Previously, it was either snow or dinkum hard frosts,” he said.

A stroke a few years ago has not prevented him from being at the rally and he hoped his 250cc Suzuki complete with sidecar, would get him and his wife to a few more rallies yet.

However, for Christchurch biker Graeme Hutchison, this year’s rally was his second and may well be his last after he fractured his leg. With his wife, who was attending her first rally, on the pillion, his 1500cc cruising motorcycle slid and fell on the mud as he was looking for a tent site, fracturing his leg. He was flown to Dunedin Hospital for treatment

Zilog, Inc. a subsidiary of Ixys Corp. and a supplier of application-specific, embedded microcontroller (MCU) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for industrial and consumer power management applications, announced that one of its customers using Zilog MCU architectures for energy savings received one of the highest “Royal” awards in the UK.

The customer, West Energy Saving Technologies, features the Zilog Z86E02 MCU in its “Ventmiser CMSM” product that is the recipient of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation. According to a release, the “Ventmiser” offers precise methods of energy management control by sensing the usage of moisture-producing appliances such as cookers, baths and showers. West Energy Saving Technologies specializes in the manufacture and supply of eco-friendly controls for domestic ventilation fans and systems, whole house ventilation and student accommodation ventilation.

“Zilog is receiving strong industry support for its energy management technologies and products,” said Darin Billerbeck, president of Zilog. “Zilog’s energy management technologies are focused on lighting, solar, motion sensing and control and wireless communication, with several new products featuring unique embedded software in their microcontroller product families.”

Dickens’ toothpick sells

An ivory and gold toothpick once owned by Charles Dickens has sold at a New York City auction for $9,150.

It was being offered by heirs to the Barnes & Noble family and was up for sale Tuesday at Bonhams New York. The pre-sale estimate was $3,000 to $5,000. The auction house says the buyer did not want to be identified.

The toothpick is engraved with the author’s initials and has a retracting mechanism.

An authentication letter from sister-in-law Georgina Hogarth says the British writer of “A Christmas Carol” and “Oliver Twist” used the toothpick “when travelling and on his last visit to America.”

Dickens died in 1870.

It may be beneficial to perform dynamic stretches after a brief warmup at the beginning of the exercise session or workout. Dynamic stretches involve using functional movements such as lunging, squatting and reaching and can be used to simultaneously train balance and core stability while sensitizing the muscles in preparation for exercise. In fact, dynamic stretches if performed correctly, may actually serve as a warm-up in themselves. Static stretching may be more effective at the end of the exercise session as part of the cool down, as the muscles will be warm and more pliable. The best long-term solution to control EAMC?s however is to restore muscle balance throughout the body by combining stretching with a well-designed functional strength training routine -concentrating specifically on core stability.

In conclusion, muscle cramping is a complex condition and this article has hopefully provided the reader with a new perspective on the scientific relationship between exercise and muscle cramping. The fact that cramps occur most often in the situations described make this model a very plausible and practical one. It is hoped that this information will assist the casual exerciser and professional athlete alike in understanding and dealing with exercise related muscle cramps.
